Episode 019 – The Flash Season 2 Finale

Download this episode

On this week’s episode, we’ll talk to Monster Mike about last week’s cliffhanger finale of CW’s “The Flash”. Has Barry gone from narrowly averting an infinite crisis to creating a dangerous time paradox?

“X-Men Apocalypse” gently roared into theatres last week, but with so much ado about “Dawn of Justice” and “Civil War”, how did Marvel’s mutants fare in the box office battle of the titans? We’re happy to share OUR thoughts on the matter!

And finally, with the “summer hiatus” season upon us, “The Recap Sequence” is marching towards its own season finale on July 3rd. Between now and then, Episodes 19 – 22 will be reduced to 30 minutes in length, supplemented by “Speaking of Thrones” on our next few Sunday broadcasts.

BUT – on July 3rd, we will be devoting the full hour to celebrating 50 years of “Star Trek”! It’s no secret that we are huge Trek fans so you can be assured that we’re planning a huge finale to our first season!

We’re not done yet, but it’s never too early to thank our listeners and supporters, so thank you! We’re already looking forward to Season 2!

Almost everyone seemed to be on the move in another fast-paced instalment of HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” the critically acclaimed series based on George R. R. Martin’s series of fantasy novels.

An exhausted Meera (Ellie Kendrick, 2009) huffed and puffed as she dragged Bran (Isaac Hampstead-Wright, “Closed Circuit,” 2014) through the snow, desperate to escape the pursuing wrights. Just when all seemed lost, a mysterious horseman arrived with a flaming mace to drive the undead back long enough for Bran and Meera to climb on his steed and escape.

On this week’s episode we’ll be taking a closer look at the “Fear The Walking Dead” mid-season finale. Is there something in the water in Baja or has everyone just lost their minds?! The group has fractured in more ways than one, but we’ll have to wait until August 21st to find out just how much damage has been done.

We’ll also talk about the new “Star Trek: Beyond” trailer as well as some exciting news from the folks behind the upcoming fan-film “Star Trek Axanar”. The production had been halted due to copyright litigation brought forward by Paramount Pictures, but a “high-profile intervention” may have just cleared the path for Axanar to boldly go forward!

And finally, we’re proud to announce that starting June 14th, “Speaking of Thrones” will  be carried by CHSR 97.9FM on Tuesdays at 6:30PM (Atlantic)! If you haven’t had a chance to check it out yet, don’t worry! We’ll be playing Episode 005 on the second half of Sunday night’s show as a preview of what’s coming next month to CHSR.

But that’s not all! Get ready for “Speaking of the Dead”! Our “Fear The Walking Dead” and “The Walking Dead” companion piece will replace “Speaking of Thrones” on Tuesdays, starting August 23rd, and will continue until we switch back into Thrones gear in April 2017!

We hope you’ll to tune in to CHSR 97.9 FM (online at chsrfm.ca) Sunday, May 29th at 9PM (8PM ET) for an all new episode of “The Recap Sequence”!

The Recap Sequence

If you don’t know why the Twitterverse is afire with #holdthedoor” references today, you missed last night’s “Game of Thrones” on HBO — but more on that later. This week’s installment of the sweeping fantasy drama based on George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” novels contained a number of heavy revelations for fans.

The fast-paced episode opened with a steely Sansa (Sophie Turner, “The Thirteenth Tale”) berating Petyr Baelish (Aiden Gillen, “The Dark Knight Rises,” 2012) for leaving her with the Boltons, asking him if he knew about Ramsay (Iwan Rheon, “Misfits”). “If you didn’t, you’re an idiot,” she said. “If you did, you’re my enemy.” Petyr seemed convincingly remorseful, and when Sansa cast him away, he offered her a hopefully reliable tip about her Uncle Brynden Tulley taking back Riverrun. Love them or hate them, there’s nothing like a family reunion, and “Game of Thrones’” fourth episode of season 6 kicked off with a doozy last night. Fans cried a collective “yes!” as Sansa (Sophie Turner, “The Thirteenth Tale”) and Jon (Kit Harington, “Pompeii,” 2014) were reunited at Castle Black. The reunion was that much sweeter when Sansa showed her true Stark colours and insisted she and Jon return to Winterfell to take back their home from Ramsay (Iwan Rheon, “Misfits”), aka the new “Lord of the North.” Her turn from damsel in distress to instigator made her one of many strong females in the action-packed episode, undoubtedly the best of the season so far. He’s alive! Despite her lack of confidence, Melisandre (Clarice van Houten, “Valkyrie,” 2008) appears to have better magic than most. Jon Snow (Kit Harington, “Pompeii,” 2014) escaped his dalliance with Death with his wits intact, at least it appeared so as he met with the other crows and wildlings that had liberated Castle Black from the traitors.

Meanwhile, somewhere on the high seas, Jon’s bestie Samwell Tarly (John Bradley, “Shameless”) battled seasickness on his way to Old Town to train as a maester. He broke the news to an excited Gilly (Hannah Murray, “Skins”) that she won’t be able to come to the citadel with him and will have to stay at his family’s home with little Sam instead.

The Recap Sequence

“Game of Thrones” fans enjoyed more tasty treats in episode 2 of season 6. The excitement began even before the opening credits rolled when viewers finally got a glimpse of Bran Stark (Isaac Hampstead-Wright, “Closed Circuit,” 2014), who hasn’t been seen since the end of season 4.

The Three-Eyed Raven (Max von Sydow, “Awakenings,” 1990) acted as Bran’s “Ghost of Winterfell Past” and shared a vision of his father, Ned Stark (Sebastian Croft, “Houdini & Doyle”) as a boy. The trip down memory lane revealed that gentle giant Hodor (Kristian Nairn, “Four Warriors,” 2015) was once known as Willis and was handy with a sword. (more…)
